Inspiration Inbox

Forward any email you like to your inspiration inbox. Optionally turn each one into an editable EmailBuilder template, automatically.

The Inspiration Inbox is a personal email address you forward designs you like to. EmailBuilder captures them as visual references — and, if you opt in, automatically converts each one into an editable MJML template using AI.

It's the fastest way to build a swipe file and a library of starting points without copy-pasting HTML.

Your inspiration address

Each project has a unique inspiration address that looks like:

[email protected]

You can find it (and copy it to the clipboard) on the Inspiration page in the app. The 8-character prefix is unique to your project and avoids ambiguous characters (no 0/o, no 1/l/i).

To rotate it (e.g. if you ever shared the address publicly), click Refresh on the Inspiration page. The old address stops working immediately.

Forwarding emails

Forward any HTML email — from your inbox, an Outlook PST, a colleague — to your inspiration address. Within seconds the email appears as a card on your Inspiration page, with a screenshot rendered to thumbnail.

You can also save inspirations manually:

  • Upload an .eml file (raw mail format that includes inline images).
  • Upload an HTML file if you already have the email's source.
  • Upload a screenshot image. You'll have a visual reference but it won't be auto-convertible to MJML.

Auto-convert (AI)

Toggle Auto in the Inspiration page header. With Auto on, every forwarded email is automatically queued for AI conversion:

  1. The original HTML is sent to the AI.
  2. The AI generates equivalent MJML — preserving layout, colours, and content structure.
  3. The AI iteratively refines the result using visual similarity comparison against the original.
  4. When done, the inspiration becomes a regular editable template in your library.

Conversion takes 1–2 minutes per email. While it runs, the card shows a loading overlay; you don't need to keep the page open — the result lands whether you're there or not.

Manual conversion

If you'd rather pick which inspirations to convert (and not blow through tokens converting everything you save), leave Auto off and use the per-card actions:

  • Create Email from Inspiration — the same AI conversion, on demand.
  • Create Blank Email from Inspiration — opens the editor with the original HTML pasted in, no AI involvement. Useful if you want to manually rebuild parts of the design.

What the AI is good at

  • Standard transactional and marketing patterns — header + hero + body + CTA + footer. Conversions are usually drop-in usable.
  • Single-column layouts. Translates cleanly to MJML.
  • Image-heavy promotional emails. The AI uses the original image URLs (so make sure they're public).

What it struggles with

  • Heavily nested table layouts that look like 2010 — these convert but often need cleanup.
  • Custom fonts loaded via @font-face in the original — MJML's font support is more limited.
  • Background images rendered via <table background="..."> — mostly preserved but mobile rendering varies.

After conversion, treat the result as a starting point: open it in the editor, fix anything that looks off, save.

Privacy

  • Inspirations and their conversions are private to your account.
  • Email content sent to the AI is treated as user content; it's not used for training and is retained only for the duration of the conversion job.
  • The inspiration address is project-scoped — emails sent to a Project A address never appear in Project B's library.

Use cases

  • Swipe file — when you see an email worth studying, forward it. Browse your inspirations later when starting a new campaign.
  • Repurposing — turn a client's newsletter into a template you can iterate on.
  • Migration — migrating from another tool? Forward your existing templates to convert them in bulk.
  • Brand audits — collect competitor emails for analysis, side by side, on one page.
