Image editor

Crop, resize, rotate, and annotate images without leaving the email editor.

EmailBuilder includes a built-in image editor for images uploaded to your account's media library. It opens inline — you stay on the email you're editing.

Opening the editor

  1. Click an image in the canvas to select it.
  2. In the image format toolbar above the canvas, click Edit image.

The button only appears for images stored in your media library. If you've used an image from a URL on the open internet, the button doesn't show — EmailBuilder won't modify images you don't own.

The editor opens as a modal over the canvas. The original image is loaded; everything you do is non-destructive until you click Save.

What you can do

  • Crop — drag the corners to crop to any aspect ratio. Snap presets for 1:1, 4:3, 16:9, and email-friendly sizes (600×, 1200×).
  • Resize — type in target pixel dimensions, or scale by percentage.
  • Rotate / flip — 90° rotation increments, horizontal and vertical flip.
  • Filters — adjust brightness, contrast, saturation, sharpness; one-click presets for common looks.
  • Draw — freehand pen, lines, arrows, rectangles, circles. Adjustable colour and stroke width.
  • Text — overlay text in any font, size, and colour the image supports.
  • Annotations — combine shapes and text for callouts (e.g. "New" sticker over a product image).

Apply runs all open changes together. You can iterate as many times as you want before saving.

Saving

You have two ways to save, and the difference matters because images are shared across your emails:

  • Save Changes — overwrites the existing image. The edit applies everywhere that image is used (every email, page, or module that references it). Use this when you genuinely want to update the asset itself — e.g. fixing the company logo.
  • Save as Copy — saves your edited version as a new image and uses it only in the spot you're editing. The original is left untouched, so other emails keep the image they had. Use this for one-off tweaks — a product photo with a "Sale" sticker for a single campaign.

In both cases EmailBuilder renders the final image with all edits baked in, uploads it, and points the current <mj-image> at the result. The copy lands in your media library as a new asset (named …-copy) you can reuse later.

Versioning

Each save creates a new version. The media library shows all versions of a file in a small dropdown next to the thumbnail; you can revert to an earlier version at any time, which simply changes the "default URL" for that file.

Versions are stored on the CDN. They count against your storage quota but not your monthly upload limit.

When to edit vs. upload a new file

  • Edit existing when you're tweaking the same asset — a brand logo with new spacing, a product photo with a "Sale" sticker for a one-off campaign.
  • Upload new when it's a genuinely different image. Versioning a file should preserve identity ("this is the company logo"); a different photo of a different thing deserves its own entry.

Limits

  • Image editor works on JPG, PNG, WEBP. SVG and GIF can be inserted but not edited (GIF would lose animation; SVG would need a different tool).
  • Maximum output dimensions: 4000×4000 px.
  • Cropping below 100×100 px is blocked — most email clients render tiny images poorly anyway.
