Gmail add-on
Insert any EmailBuilder template into a Gmail compose window in two clicks. Best for one-to-one and small-batch sending.
The EmailBuilder Gmail add-on adds a sidebar to Gmail compose that lists your templates. Click one to insert it as the email body — your existing recipients, subject, and attachments stay intact.
It's best for one-to-one or small-batch sending: sales follow-ups, support replies, hand-curated newsletters under a few hundred recipients. For large campaigns, connect an ESP and use the Send Wizard.
Install
- Open the EmailBuilder.ai for Gmail listing on Google Workspace Marketplace.
- Click Install. Grant the requested permissions — the add-on needs read/write access to the compose draft only, not to your inbox.
- Open Gmail and click Compose. You'll see an EmailBuilder icon in the right-side add-on tray.
Connect to your EmailBuilder account
The first time you open the add-on, it asks for an API key:
- Sign in to app.emailbuilder.ai.
- Go to Account → Integrations → API Keys.
- Click Generate new key, give it a name (e.g. "Gmail add-on"), and copy the key.
- Paste it into the add-on sidebar and click Connect.
The link is remembered. From then on, opening Gmail in the same Google account skips this step and shows your templates straight away.
Use it
- Click Compose in Gmail.
- Click the EmailBuilder icon in the right-side add-on tray.
- Browse or search your templates. Pick one.
- Click Insert into draft.
The template's HTML replaces the compose body. From there you can:
- Edit recipients, subject, attachments as usual.
- Tweak text or images using Gmail's compose toolbar (the rendered HTML is editable).
- Click Send when you're done.
A copy of the message is stored in your Sent folder, not on EmailBuilder — Gmail handles delivery, so you also get the recipient's reply in your normal inbox.
Caveats
- No mass send. The add-on inserts into one compose window at a time. For lists, segments, or CSV blasts, use the Send Wizard with a connected ESP.
- No merge tags in compose. Gmail compose doesn't substitute template variables — what you see in the preview is exactly what the recipient gets. If you have personalization, do the substitution in EmailBuilder first, then insert.
- No deliverability authentication via the add-on. Mail goes out on Gmail's infrastructure with whatever DKIM/SPF Google already has for your domain. If you send from a custom domain, make sure SPF and DKIM are configured in Google Workspace.
Disconnecting
To disconnect a Google account from EmailBuilder:
- From the add-on: click the gear icon → Disconnect. The Gmail account is unlinked; templates no longer appear until you reconnect.
- From EmailBuilder: Account → Integrations → API Keys → revoke the key you gave the add-on. The add-on will prompt you to reconnect on next use.
Revoking the API key disconnects every device or integration using that key. Use named keys ("Gmail add-on", "Zapier", "Outlook add-in") so you can revoke selectively.
Outlook?
We have an Outlook add-in in the same shape — install from the Microsoft AppSource listing and follow the same API-key flow. The UI and constraints are identical.
